Wix Review – Are They Suitable for Beginners?
You have seen Wix’s star-studded ads with Gal Gadot, Jason Statham, model Karlie Kloss, and comedic duo Rhett & Link. You are intrigued and now all you can think about is that if Wix is good enough for Wonder Woman and The Transporter, surely it is good enough for you?
Well, before you dive right in, let’s find out!
In this Wix review, we cover Wix’s pricing and plans, templates, ease of use, support, using Wix for business/eCommerce, and more.

Overview of Wix
Founded in 2006, Wix has very quickly established itself as one of the biggest and, if we may, best website builders in the market.
Today, it has over 200 million users across 190 countries.
So, what exactly are website builders? Generally, website builders are programs or tools that help you to quickly build a website, with no coding or technical knowledge necessary.
Most website builders typically come with drag-and-drop editors so that they are beginner-friendly and easier for the users.
Gone are the days when website-building is the domain of only coders.
Now, just about anyone and everyone — from your colleague in HR to your mother — can create beautiful websites for their projects with website builders.
Wix has its global headquarters in New York City and has regional offices spanning the globe from Sydney to Bogotá with over thirty thousand employees worldwide.
Wix is one of the top three website platforms for small businesses by Great Place to Work Institute and listed as one of Forbes’ Best Tech Companies To Work For For 2018.
The reviews on Wix are highly favorable in terms of the quality of service, but there is a lot to be desired when it comes to the quality of some of their products.
Wix’s Pricing Plans
Wix has something for every price point but, confusingly, its pricing varies according to where you are located.
For instance, for Wix’s users in the United States, its VIP plan costs $39.00 but the very same plan is only $24.50 in Malaysia and Singapore.
If you are in Australia, on the other hand, you can get it for $27.00.
Besides that, certain plans are also not available in certain countries. To give an example, users from India can only purchase one type of plan — Premium.
Now, for the purpose of this review, let’s look at the prices and plans available to users in Malaysia and Singapore.
|Wix Website Plans||Wix Business & Ecommerce||Wix Free Plan|
|Connect – $4.5/mo||Basic – $17/mo||Free – $0/mo|
|Combo – $8.5/mo||Unlimited – $25/mo|
|Unlimited – $12.5/mo||VIP – $35/mo|
|VIP – $24.5/mo|
These prices are for when you sign up to be billed yearly.
Let’s explore what these plans come with.
First, you have the free plan.
With this plan, you cannot use your own domain and there will be Wix brand ads on every page of your website. It comes with 500MB of storage and up to 500MB of bandwidth.
Next up, you have Wix’s cheapest paid plan which is Connect Domain where you are, true to its name, allowed to connect your own domain and get an increase in bandwidth to 1GB.
However, you are still limited to only 500MB of storage.
Also, there will still be Wix brand ads on every page of your website.
Then, you have Combo where you get 2GB of bandwidth and 3GB of storage.
This plan allows you to connect your own domain or, alternatively, you can utilize the free domain that comes with the plan for a year. Plus, the plan lets you remove Wix’s ads and upload up to 30 minutes of video.
This next plan, Unlimited, is Wix’s most popular plan and is ideal for entrepreneurs and freelancers. Here, there is unlimited bandwidth and 10GB of storage available to you.
Like Combo, you can choose to remove Wix’s ads. Besides that, the plan includes a free domain for one year as well as one video hour.
VIP, Wix’s most expensive non-business plan, comes equipped with unlimited bandwidth and 20GB of storage. Of course, with VIP, you can remove Wix ads and connect your own domain.
Apart from that, you can upload up to 2 hours of video to your site, too. Phew!
Additionally, you get access to priority response (where your ticket will be pushed to the front of the line) and your call is the first priority for the support team. If you are one for social media, you will be grateful that you will also get 40+ different sizes of your logo for your social media platforms with VIP.
Wix Business and Ecommerce Plans
Moving on, we have Wix’s Business & eCommerce plans.
All of its Business & eCommerce plans come with unlimited bandwidth and Google Analytics, support online payments, and are 100% commission-free.
First, you have Business Basic with 20GB of storage and five video hours. There is, of course, a free domain for one year, too.
Next in line is Business Unlimited which is somewhat of an extension of Business Basic with the exception of bigger storage of 35GB, increased video hours (10 video hours), and the bonus of different sizes of your logo for social media.
Wix’s most expensive plan (for this location, anyway) is Business VIP where you essentially get an enhanced version of everything offered to the other plans for $35.00 per month.
The enhancements include 50GB of storage, unlimited video hours, priority response, and VIP support.
Overall, while Wix’s prices are a little on the higher side, they are still rather reasonable.
However, we do have two gripes here.
First, Wix should really consider setting fixed prices (and plans availability) instead of varying its prices (and plans) according to locations. This method is just downright confusing, not to mention restrictive.
Apart from that, there are simply too many somewhat similar plans available right now.
The thing is, when you give people just a couple of choices, they will grumble, make a choice, and move on.
But, when you give people way too many choices, they tend to grumble, freeze, and put off making a decision.
Hence, there is really no reason for Wix to offer that many plans with minimal differences between them.
We will be the first to say it: we are hard to please.
But, we are extremely pleased with Wix’s offerings when it comes to design and templates.
Its templates are undeniably impressive — modern, aesthetically pleasing, and clean. In fact, they are realizing the dreams of every minimalist out there.
Wix offers over 500 templates for different categories, including, business, online store, blog, portfolio, events, and photography.
It sounds like a cliché but there really is something for everybody.
Plus, these templates are all editable to better suit your needs. If you would like to build your website from scratch, there is that option, too.
On the other hand, if you do not want to fuss around with editing the layouts and the likes, give Wix’s Artificial Design Intelligence (ADI) a try.
Simply answer a few questions — such as what your website is for — and the system will generate a website for you.
On this, we can attest that (unlike other AI website builders where they tend to generate outdated designs) Wix exceeds all expectations.
The website generated is as stunning and personalized as if you opt to use the templates.
Just How Easy Is It To Use Wix?EasyThe short answer: extremely easy. It is not difficult to understand why Wix is leading in the market when you look at its intuitive editor.
Admittedly, there are quite a few components, elements, buttons, and such confronting you when you log into your Wix’s dashboard.
But they are arranged and presented in such a way where — rather than intimidated by them — you cannot help but be excited to explore every single one of them.
Additionally, because of how intuitive the editor is, you can easily and swiftly master the basics, even if you are a beginner.
The best part, however, is just how much control you have over the elements of your website.
Wix’s editor allows you to add just about everything — including videos, shapes, buttons, boxes, strips, music, gallery, and more — to anywhere on your page.
The editor’s flexibility is off the charts!
One complaint here is that Wix’s editor could be more responsive.
From what we see/experience, it is not too terrible but there is a discernible lag as the editor struggles to keep up with the changes.
Grow Your Business with Wix
Now, for those of you looking to use Wix for your online store, it does come with some very appealing features.
The features include the ability to sell both physical and digital products, inventory management via desktop or mobile, multiple commission-free payment methods (including PayPal), the ability to support coupons and discounts, and customized shipping management.
A lot of business owners are now choosing to create online stores using Wix, but unfortunately, not every business owner finds that Wix is the right product for them.
It is very important if you are going to use Wix for your online business that you do your research and get all the information you need before making any investment into this platform.

Is Wix SEO-Friendly?
Additionally, Wix also comes with features to promote and drive traffic to your site.
Included in these features are a personalized SEO plan, SEO analytics, traffic analytics, email marketing, mailing list, and various social media tools.
The next question you’ll be asking would be “What is Wix’s Search Engine Optimization ability?”
While it’s obvious that Wix is capable of handling basic SEO tweaks and implementation, it might be difficult if you are more into advance or technical SEO fixes for beginners.
That is due to the framework of the Wix itself compare to a more flexible WordPress.
If you are looking for a quick SEO beginners guide, here’s a well-written one.
Coming up next the support would be rather disappointing for most. We know we are.
You can get in touch with Wix’s support team via phone or a ticket.
If you signed up for the VIP plan or Business VIP, your ticket and your call will be pushed to the front of the line and will be the first priority for the support team.
However, frustratingly, Wix does not offer support via live chat.
In this day and age, that is a distinct disadvantage as, realistically, that is the preferred channel for most people.
Is Wix worth its premium prices?
Unhesitatingly and undoubtedly, it is a yes from us if you hate the learning curve and hassling running through tutorials on running a WordPress site.
With Wix, you do not need to worry about hosting as it’s been taken care of. Looking for the best web hosting in Malaysia can be a tedious task, especially there’s so much noise in the market.
Despite some shortcomings (its prices are all over the place and the editor could be more responsive), its stunning templates, excellent control via its editor, and great features place it rather firmly in the win column.
If you need a second opinion, Weebly might just be there.
